When you check in into the hotel, you are given room key in the form of card, right? You awipe at the room door, Wallah.. the room opens in front of you. Well and good; smart and simple this computer days! I agree with you. You close the door and perhaps prepare yourself for your appointment. But remember to leave your card in the card slot for the electrical power supply (aircon, lights, tv etc..). Ever wonder what else the magnetic Key Card contains? Surprise...surprise the informations in the card are the following:-

 

a) Guest's name

b) Guest's home address

c) Check-in and check-out dates

d) Hotel room number

e) Guest's credit card number and expiration date.

 

Upon checking out, some guests returned their key cards to the cashier or front office. Anyone manning the front desk can access your personal information by simply scanning the card at hotel scanner, Imagine an empolyee taking home all these turned in cards and using a scanning devise, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense!!

 

Hotels do not erase the personal information on these cards until these cards are reissued to the next hotel guests. When you check out, keep the cards with you and destroyed them by cutting the magnetic parts.-Courtesy of the METROPOLITAN POLICE.
